About the Book:

Billy Bobble Version 4
"E = mc2 is no longer the most powerful force in the universe. Your wand is."
Twelve-year-old Billy and his best friend Suzy Quinofski didn't mean to change the universe. Billy, a quantum physics prodigy, just wanted to find a way to help his hoarding, schizophrenic mother – and maybe impress a coven of older girls in high school. Suzy, his intellectual equal, wanted to help her friend and cling to her last remnant of childhood, a belief in magic. Together they made Billy a real, working, magic wand, and opened a door to the Quantum World where thoughts create reality, and all things – good and bad – are possible.

My Thoughts :

This was such a fun read!!

At the start it took me awhile to get into it simply because I didn't understand half of what Billy and Suzy were on about. I mean these kids are smart with a capital S!! When they started on about Quantum Physics etc, I was lost half the time, which is intimidating because this is a Middle Grade book!!! Lol. I mean Billy and Suzy are smart with a capital S!!! When Billy made the wand was when I finally got into it and enjoyed it.

Anyway, I felt for poor Billy, he is so smart that he has surpassed all kids his own age and is even getting scouted for college. He gets bullied sometimes, though not much because he does all the homework for most of the jocks so they protect him. He gets it into his head one day that what if magic is real and what if you can focus that magic. Hence the magic wand.

Suzy is Billys intellectual equal and both have been friends for what feels like forever. She helps Billy unlock the riddle of magic. She is more restrained and level headed than Billy though and is hesitant to do it. I loved their friendship and they work really well together.

Plot wise, its such a unique premise. Part Science, Part Magic, all fun! Billy makes the deadliest weapon ever and as the saying goes, with great strength comes great responsibility. When Billy demonstrates the wand he accidentally blows up some of the school. He has to figure out how to use the wand while keeping it out of the hands of people who would use it for evil.

Anyway, I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next installment. Its such a fun and interesting read. I love that the characters are super smart and nice. It's not often that the MCs are so smart. Its a complex and engaging read and one I will give to my boys for sure. Also after that ending, I need book 2 to see what happens next!!
