  • Love is ever near. But trouble is never far. Nantucket Island is haunted, but only sixteen-year-old Jade Irving knows it. Ignoring the disturbing spirits isn't an option, because one dwells in the enormous historic home she shares with her newly blended family. Jade is finding it more and more difficult to explain away Lacey's ghostly, anguished tantrums, especially with Charlie, her gorgeous, almost step-brother, living right across the hall. When a power-hungry ghost hunter tracks down Jade and blackmails her, Jade's secret teeters on the edge of exposure, and her entire future hangs in the balance. If anyone finds out Jade can talk to ghosts, her life will be forever changed. Can she save herself, free Lacey, and hang on to her connection with Charlie? Or will everything she ever wanted slip through her fingers?

  • My Thoughts:

  • A creepy and thrilling read.

  • Jade goes to live with her mom, her new fiance and his kids in Nantucket Island. Jade is used to the city so a tiny island is new to her. It doesn't help that the island is haunted and Jade can see the ghosts! It also doesn't help that there is one in her new house that won't leave Jade alone. How is she to handle all this, when she has no-one she can turn to? No-one knows what she can do, and she thinks no-one will believe her, but when a ghost tour host tracks Jade down and blackmails her, she realises that she may have to confide in someone for help. She is also trying to deal with the feelings she has for her soon to be step brother! How is she to survive the summer in one piece!!!

  • I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this one. One of my bookish friends, whom opinion I trust, read and really enjoyed it, so when I saw the audio, I knew I had to try it. It sounded so good and creepy!! Well I'm glad to say that it was, I really enjoyed this.

  • I loved Jades character. She has so much to deal with, yet she still manages to be a typical teen! She has been seeing spirits for years but it's the first time she has had to live with one. This one is also pushy and in your face, so Jade becomes a little withdrawn and hates going home. Home used to be her sanctuary, but not anymore. Add in her feelings for Charlie and she is having one tough summer!! Through it all though, Jade is herself. She is tough and strong though she is fragile in a way as well. She still freaks out some times with the spirits, especially with the ones whom mean harm, which I liked because I know if I saw what she saw, I'd freak!!!

  • Charlie was awesome too. He is so kind and strong and such a sweetheart. It's hard not to like him!! At the start, I'll admit, that I thought it a bit icky she had feelings for him because he is soon to be her step brother, but then I thought, heck, they aren't related so it makes no difference. I loved seeing their relationship grow!

  • I loved the plot of this. While it started a little slow, it really picked up pace and I flew through it. The ghosts were shiver inducing and I had chills reading those parts. The isolation that Jade feels really pulled at my heart strings too. She knows that no one will believe her so keeps her secret to herself. My heart broke for her!! And then what happens when she does confide in someone just about broke my heart again.

  • Anyway, I loved this book so much. It's such a chilling and intriguing read, that you will tear through the pages to see what happens next. I was on the edge of my seat when she was confronted with a certain ghost!! The author has created a terrifying yet sweet story and one I know will stay on my favourites shelf. From it's chilling story to it's sweet romance, Ever Near is a must read. I loved everything about it and can't wait to dive into more of Jades tale!! Bring on book 2 :)

  • I listened to the audio and loved it. The narrator, Melissa Redmond did a great job with Jade though I kind of wanted a little more. I wanted her to make Jade a little more terrified at certain parts and a little more brave at others. She portrayed her well but if she added that extra bit, it would of made it amazing.

  • *I received the audio for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own*
