Romantic and action-packed, The Replaced is the gripping second installment in the Taking trilogy.
Kyra hasn't been the same since she returned from her mysterious five-year disappearance. Now, on the run from the NSA, Kyra is forced to hide out with others who, like her, have been Returned. Yet she is determined to find Tyler, the boy she loves who was also abducted—all because of her. When her group intercepts a message that Tyler might still be alive but is in the hands of a shadowy government organization that experiments on the Returned, Kyra knows it's a risk to go after him. What if it's a trap? And worse, what if the returned Tyler isn't the same boy she lost?
Perfect for fans of The Fifth Wave and the Body Finder series, The Replaced is both chilling and explosive, with creepy, otherworldly elements and twisty, psychological thrills that will have you questioning what exactly it means to be human.
My Thoughts:
I adored book 1 of this and couldn't wait to dive into this when I got it. I was so hoping that this wouldn't suffer the dreaded second book syndrome and be a filler before the third, but thank goodness it didn't. This was every bit as good as the first!
After the ending of book 1, Kyra is left with no idea of where her father or Tyler is. She searches for clues everyday but with no luck. That is until she thinks she found a message from her dad. The message sends her on a dangerous mission to infiltrate the people she is hiding from. What she can't tell is if this is a trap or not. What happens on that mission forces her to go even further into hiding. Kyra realises that things and people aren't always what they seem.
Kyra was as kick ass as always. She is such a strong character and that didn't change in this one. She has more to deal with in this edition yet it doesn't change her. She has to deal with the not knowing what happened to her father and Tyler, she has to deal with her powers developing and trying to control them, she has to deal with the dreaded agents following her and seeming to know her every move and she also has to deal with some feeling developing for Simon.
Now I loved Tyler in book one because he was so sweet and just such a great character but we don't see as much of him in this one and Kyra ends up feeling something for Simon. She struggles with her feelings but you can see deep down who she really loves.
The plot of this is much more fast paced and action packed, which I loved. It's basically non stop for poor Kyra and the gang. We are also introduced to some new characters and the gang head to a new settlement so we have a change of scenery.
In all this was a fantastic second book. It's action packed, fast paced and enthralling. We find out answers to certain questions but there are still some big ones left unanswered. Some pretty shocking things come to light and we finally find out why Kyra is different.
I pretty much loved everything about the book and can not wait for book 3 because it ends on a cliffhanger!! I love Kimberly Dertings writing style and honestly think everyone should read her work.
