Secret service agent Ethan Burke arrives in Wayward Pines, Idaho, with a clear mission: locate and recover two federal agents who went missing in the bucolic town one month earlier. But within minutes of his arrival, Ethan is involved in a violent accident. He comes to in a hospital, with no ID, no cell phone, and no briefcase. The medical staff seems friendly enough, but something feels?off. As the days pass, Ethan's investigation into the disappearance of his colleagues turns up more questions than answers. Why can't he get any phone calls through to his wife and son in the outside world? Why doesn't anyone believe he is who he says he is? And what is the purpose of the electrified fences surrounding the town? Are they meant to keep the residents in? Or something else out? Each step closer to the truth takes Ethan further from the world he thought he knew, from the man he thought he was, until he must face a horrifying fact? He may never get out of Wayward Pines alive. Intense and gripping, Pines is another masterful thriller from the mind of bestselling novelist Blake Crouch.

My Thoughts:

I hadn't heard of this series prior to seeing adds for the TV show so went into this with no expectations, and boy did I end up loving this, and indeed the whole series of books!! This was reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through.

The blurb sums it up perfectly and I don't want to add anything because I will spoil something, so I'll get straight to my thoughts.

I loved Ethan. He wakes up in a strange town that seems even stranger to him but he knows his own mind. He knows something is up and is intent on finding out what, though the truth might be worse than he imagined. He was strong, smart and determined.

The setting for this was perfect!! A small town, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by an electrified fence, with weird ass people living there. What's creepier than that!!! Lol. Ethan tries to get answers from people but why do some people have no idea what a mobile phone is, or why do some of them seem to belong years in the past? The whole feeling of the place and people was so creepy.

The plot was fast paced and incredibly intense. You think you know where it's going, but you are wrong!! Crouch will take you one way and then, bam, hits you with a twist you never saw coming. It was riveting to see this story unfurl and see where it was going.

In all this was incredible. It's mind bendingly delicious and totally engrossing. I flew through this and immediately dived into book 2, believe me when I say that once you start this, you will need to have the next 2 on hand because you need to see what happens next. I can't recommend this enough, so all I'll say is go give it a go!!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I'd heard about it shortly before the show, but the sample didn't do anything for me, sadly neither did the show. (I gave up when they killed the bartender) Sounds like maybe I'll have to give it another shot. What I don't know is how it can keep going, because he can't leave the town since it's the title.

    1. I haven't watched it yet but I'm sure I'll try it some time :) I really enjoyed the book though. It gets better as it progresses. It was hard to see how there was 3 books because, as you said, he couldn't leave town, but the author made it work!!
