How I Came Up With Zola Flash

People always ask me about how I came up with the idea of Zola Flash.  It’s not something I really thought about at the time, but every idea comes from somewhere.  I was a junior in high school when I started writing it.  I was in my World History class, and the teacher was going over the rise and fall of the Roman Empire.  I don’t condone not paying attention in class, but like many other sixteen year old, I was bored.
With that being said, ancient civilizations has always fascinated me.  With my class studying the Roman Empire, the issues of that time kind of made their way into my writing.  Power and family were the two main things I seemed to focus on.  The Romans cared so much and so little about family that it was startling.  Their names gave them prestige and luxuries that many did not have, yet as soon as they were greeted with the opportunity of power, they would cut their family down in a heartbeat.
I knew I wanted those to be issues in my story because family means a lot to me.  Until I started at the University of Arkansas, I was never away from my family.  I wanted my main character, Zola, to have that same bond with her family.  However, no family is perfect, as the Romans had no problem showing.  My second main character shows how true that could be.
So in a nutshell, the story of Zola Flash was inspired by family: the good, the bad, the ups, and the downs.

About the Author
Hi!  I’m La’Teaikia, and I write YA Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Romance.  I’ve been an avid reader since ninth grade when I first discovered Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight.   I know, I know. Most people think sparkly vampires are just wrong.  I am NOT one of those people.Even though I’ve only been reading for a short time, unlike most authors,  I’ve been writing since I was seven.   And before you ask, that was fifteen years ago.To me, everything have to be perfect, which is why it has taken me so long to publish my debut novel, Zola Flash.  I tend to plan out and list everything.  My husband think it’s excessive. So with that being said, here are a few things you should know about me, other than what I’ve already said.
  1. I live in the lonely state of Arkansas.  I plan to move as soon as I complete my graduate degree, preferably someplace where Taylor Swift tours.
  1. If you didn’t get the hint from my first point, I’m a HUGE Taylor Swift fan.
  1. When I’m not reading or writing, I’m designing clothes and handbags and watching Doctor Who.
  1. I’m a kid at heart.  I love Barbie Movies.  I love watching Disney Channel.  However, them thinking that every movie they come out with needs to be a musical is a bit much.
  1. Chocolate is my life.  I’ll eat anything with chocolate . . . well, maybe not anything.
