Death Becomes Me by Elizabeth Holloway Blog Tour and Giveaway!

Hi guys, welcome to my stop on the Death Becomes Me by Elizabeth Holloway tour. I read, and loved, book 1 of this series and am so happy to be a part of this tour!! Check out the full tour stops HERE.

Death Becomes Me (Call Me Grim #2) by Elizabeth Holloway Publication Date: November 2015 Genre: YA, Paranormal

Libbi and Aaron are Grim Reapers on the run. They may have escaped their hometown of Carroll Falls unscathed, and are together and alive (well, more or less), but they’ll soon find there’s a price to pay. A deadly one. By escaping Carroll Falls, Libbi and Aaron have broken the Reaper’s covenant with Abaddon, aka Death himself – and now they’re right at the top of Abaddon’s Most Wanted list. There’s nowhere to hide, and not a single person, alive or dead, they can turn to for help. But just as it's looking like the end of the line, Libbi hears word of a Reaper in hiding – a Reaper who once escaped Abaddon's wrath. Finding this mysterious Reaper might be the perfect solution… if Death doesn’t find them first.

Book 1:

The truck should have turned Libbi Piper into a Libbi Pancake—and it would have, too, if Aaron hadn't shown up and saved her life. The problem? Aaron's the local Grim Reaper . . . and he only saved Libbi's life because he needs someone to take over his job. Now, Libbi has two days to choose between dying like she was supposed to, or living a lonely life as Death Incarnate. Talk about a rock and a hard place. And the choice goes from hard to sucktastic when her best friend shows up marked: condemned as a future murderer. Libbi could have an extra week to stop the murder and fix the mark . . . but only if she accepts Aaron's job as Reaper, trapping herself in her crappy town forever, invisible and inaudible to everyone except the newly dead. But, if she refuses? Her best friend is headed straight for Hell.

Author interview:

Elizabeth, welcome to Book Lovers Life. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my questions!!

Where do your ideas come from?

Sometimes from things I see out in real life, sometimes from things my weird brain thinks about. For instance, the idea for Call Me Grim came from a random thought: What if the Grim Reaper wanted to quit his job? I figured “Grim Reaper” has got to be the worst job title possible and one would probably want a break from all the death and such after a while.

How do you develop your writing ideas?

Once the idea is in my head, I usually imagine how I would deal with the problem. In the case of Call Me Grim, I figured I wouldn’t want that job at all. So, I decided Libbi would need a really good reason to take it. Once I have the basic idea and direction, I sit down and start writing. I’m a pantser, for sure.

Where do you find inspiration for your characters?

Almost all of my characters have a bit of me in them. Libbi is an artist, and I’m an out-of-practice artist. Aaron folds origami, and I fold origami (well, I try). The personalities of my characters I pull from real life. None of them are carbon copies of people I know, but there are bits and pieces of different people in my characters. I think any good writer is also a good observer.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?

I started making up stories as soon as I was old enough to speak (Seriously. Ask my mom). By the time I was in high school I was writing angsty  poetry , short stories, and one absolutely awful novel. I didn’t start taking my writing seriously (by seriously I mean with the intent to get published) until I was thirty.

What makes you unique as a writer?

Tough question. Maybe my blend of snark, dark humor, romance, and a sprinkle of horror makes me unique.

What writers inspire/d you?

The list is endless. I read Stephan King and Dean Koontz like a fiend as a teenager. J.K. Rowling is a huge inspiration. Suzanne Collins, Octavia Butler… Really, I could go on and on.

How has your writing career changed since you started?

Well, getting published was a huge change. And it totally threw me. It was amazing, frightening, and overwhelming. I still haven’t recovered.

What does your writing process look like?

It starts with an idea, sometimes it’s something I see in real life, sometimes it’s something that pops into my weird brain. Then I take the seed of the idea and ask myself how I would deal with the problem. Once I have an idea of where the story is going, I sit down and write. I’m a card-carrying pantser.

What would you say is your interesting writing quirk?

I don’t know if I have any. I’m a night nurse, so on my nights off I’m usually up writing until sunrise. Sometimes I need music. Sometimes I need absolute silence. Sometimes I need coffee. Sometimes I need wine. It all depends.

What are your writing goals for the next year?

I’m about to start working on the third and final book in the Call Me Grim series, which is untitled at the moment. I also have a YA thriller in the works called Drive. It’s about a teen petty thief who finds a girl tied up in the back of a van and decides to follow the van. I hope to have that one finished next year.

Name the five biggest distractions from your writing.

The internet, the children, the job, the TV, and reading, sadly

What character would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?

If I was 16 years old, Aaron all the way. Reaper creepy-factor aside, I’d probably just stand there and stare at him, hoping he’d look my way.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?

Yes, I hear from readers occasionally. Most of the time they tell me they love Libbi and ask when the next book will be out. I love it when they contact me. I love hearing what people think of my work. It’s so awesome to know my hard work means something to someone.

Some Get to know me Questions

What’s the best vacation you ever had?

Probably one of the many, MANY times I’ve been to Disney World. I love that place.

What’s your favourite rainy day movie?

Probably The Shawshank Redemption. Anytime I’m flipping through the channels and see it’s on, I stop and watch it.

If you could be any age again for a week, which would you choose and why?

I’m pretty happy with my life now, so I don’t think I’d want to go back. If I could turn back the time on my body, but stay in this time, I’d turn back to my mid-twenties, because I’d be in my mid-twenties and I’d be hot!

If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, what would it be?

I think it would have been awesome to be alive when we first walked on the moon. I can’t imagine the excitement and awe that must have inspired.

What's your favourite place to read?

On my couch with my dog snuggled up next to me.

When you walk into a book store, where do you head first?

The Young Adult section

If you had a million dollars, what would be the first thing you would buy?

A NEW HOUSE! My house is old and decrepit and needs so much work it’s overwhelming. Next, I’d take the most amazing vacation I could think of, probably a European cruise.
