OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES:

Can you still love with a heart of stone?
Sebastian Grey always thought he was a fairly normal teenager – good friends, decent grades and a pretty sweet job in his foster brother’s tattoo shop.
But when Romany gypsies arrive in town, Sebastian discovers that his world is not what it seems. There is an age-old feud between his family and the gypsies – and this isn’t the only secret his brother has been keeping from him. His life is not his own. The girl he’s been dreaming about has just turned up at school, and he feels compelled to protect her at all costs.
Even if that means life might never be normal again.

Author Interview:

Where do you find inspiration for your characters?
My inspiration comes from many places. Sebastian Grey, the main character in my series, is my own take on my absolute favourite type of character in books, movies, and television. I’ve always wanted to write him. The high school students I was teaching at the time were a great source of inspiration for Grey, and a few of them even ended up in the story.

What does your writing process look like?
I’m pretty much all over the place when I write. I don’t always outline very well, so there comes a point in my writing where I end up having to totally stop and work my way through my plot. I like starting with dialogue first. It’s my way to really get into my characters’ heads and figure out how they all fit together. Then I expand out from there. I write things down on sticky notes and tape them all over my desk. I’m a tactile person, so I like being able to yank notes off and move them around. After I finish the first draft and begin the revision process, I’m much more methodical.

What are your writing goals for the next year?
Well, I’m currently writing book three of the series, which is due to my publisher by September, so that’s my first goal. But I also have another YA novel I finished a couple of years ago that I want to take back out and revise, and I just started a new project that is a bit more on the sci-fi side. My goal is to get the first draft of it written this year.

What character would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?
This question just gave me the creeps because getting stuck in an elevator is one of my biggest fears. So actually, I’d love to get stuck with Kurt Wagner from the X-Men comic books because Nightcrawler could totally teleport me right out of there!

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Being a debut author, I’m still actively working on getting the word out about The Romany Outcasts Series so that people know about it. Word of mouth is still the best way to hear about new books. But I’ve enjoyed getting to connect with bloggers and reviewers and hear what they think of Grey. My dream and goal as a YA writer is to be able to connect and chat with more readers, so I hope that will happen...which, of course, is my way of saying, feel free to contact me at any time, because I love chatting about anything related to books and writing!

Some Get to know me Questions

What do you like to do when you're not writing?
When I’m not writing, I’m usually doing something else creative. I direct shows for local theatres, and I work with high school students at my church. I spend a lot of time hanging out with my two 13-year-old sons and my husband. When I have time to myself, I like going out for bubble tea with friends and catching a movie – preferably something sci-fi, fantasy, or superhero related. Oh, and I make costumes for sci-fi/fantasy conventions. I’ve been attending DragonCon in Atlanta for a long time, and it’s a highlight of my year. At the moment, my office is filled with fabric and glue guns.

What’s the best vacation you ever had?
Oh, hands down, the best vacation I’ve had so far was visiting England with my husband for our anniversary last year. London is my heart city, and I miss it so much! We also were able to take a train over to Wales for the Doctor Who Experience, and I was so happy. I can’t wait to go back to the UK, but until then, I look forward to my family trips to Disney World every year.

What’s your favourite rainy day movie?
Depending on my mood, it would be a toss up between Sense and Sensibility, The Princess Bride, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, or the Avengers.

What's you favourite place to read?

I’ll read anywhere, honestly, but I have a cute little library that my husband put together for me a couple of years ago. I really like curling up with my iPad and a cup of coffee to read. Granted, I don’t usually have that luxury, and most of my reading is done while waiting in the middle school carpool line.
