The Shattered Seam
Kathleen Groger
(Seam Stalkers, #1)
Publication date: September 13th 2016
Genres: Horror, Paranormal, Young Adult

Spending spring break on an isolated island rumored to be haunted is not sixteen-year-old Sam’s idea of fun. Spending spring break with her uncle and his ghost-hunting film crew on an isolated island is even worse.
Way worse.
Her family’s secrets—and a genetic ability she can no longer deny—surface, along with the ghost of a rich serial killer who left behind a trail of trapped souls.
And he’s not through yet.
With only one chance for escape, Sam must embrace her family’s curse and close the Seam between the living and the dead. Or be lost, forever.

My Thoughts:

With the death of her beloved Grandmother, Sam finds herself spending spring break with her Uncle and his Ghost hunting film crew on an isolated island. They are there to film an episode of their hit show in Defiance Castle. A place supposedly haunted by a serial killer. Sam is nervous even before she gets there, you see Sam thinks she is going mad! She hears and sees things just like her grandmother did and since Ghosts aren't real, she feels like she is losing her mind. On their way to the island they are attacked by crows, Sam puts it down to a fluke and soon puts them out of her mind, but once on the island, Sam can't pretend anymore. Seeing things and hearing things are becoming more common and with the addition of 2 new special guests for her uncles show, Sam needs to find out what is happening before it's too late.

This was incredibly creepy!!! Perfect time of year to read it though ;) I want to see this as a film, though I don't know if I'd be able to watch it as I'd probably watch most of it behind my hands!! Lol.

Sam was awesome. She is considered a freak by many at school and therefore doesn't have many friends. She usually spends Spring Break with her Grandmother but with her passing, she now has to spend it with her Uncle. Normally that would be good, but he is going to an isolated island, with no way off, until their ride gets there a few days later. She tries to stay out of the cameras way as she doesn't want the kids at school to see her, but that proves difficult. Plus she seems to be sensing and seeing things a lot more than she is used to. Despite all this, Sam stays strong. With dangerous things happening, she knows that she may be the only one who can help. Sam was easy to relate to and I was rooting for her throughout.

The plot was fast paced and incredibly intense! I was reading it and was gasping and on the edge of my seat throughout. It was well written and developed, and totally gripping. I do think that the setting also helped with this. An isolated island: check, a creepy old house: check, a serial killer: check, they all add up to a chilling read and one that I still think of, days after reading.

In all, a creepy, entertaining and addictive read. I pretty much loved everything about this and can't wait for the next one. Highly recommend!!
