Being Human by Patricia Lynne Book Feature and Giveaway!

Please welcome Patricia Lynne to the blog. Today we are showcasing her novel, Being Human. Read on for an author interview and to find out more about the book!

For Tommy, there is only one thing he needs to do: survive. Only surviving isn't that easy. The hunt for blood can be tricky when humans know to fear the night. Desire sits on the edge of his mind, urging him to become the monster humans think he is. Vampire Forces, a special branch of police, is determined to turn every vampire to ash. Tommy included.
The only human Tommy can trust is his twin brother. A bond connects them, and with Danny's help, Tommy starts to understand the human world he struggles to survive in. He'll learn what friendships means and feel the sting of betrayal, find that sometimes the worst monsters are very human, and come to understand that family means more than blood.
Tommy just wants to survive and he knows what he needs to do. But with the number of humans that mean more to him than a meal growing, he'll learn there's more to life than simple survival. He'll discover being human doesn't mean being a human.

Author Interview:

Where do your ideas come from?
They’re all over the place. I’ve had books and movies and video games inspire me. Random ideas pop into my head in the shower. A dream kick started my writing when a vampire story that sounded fun (if full of plot holes and will never see the light of day.)

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I never intended on being a writer (doesn’t that make you want to read my books!) I started writing on a whim because I was bored one day. I was in my mid twenties. It wasn’t until I was working on Being Human that it struck me as a story that other people might enjoy, so I started researching publishing and writing because I knew I’d need help with editing and getting the book made.

What makes you unique as a writer?
I’m one of the few that didn’t want to be a writer when I was a little kid. I wanted to be an artist. I’m also one of the few that doesn’t do NaNoWriMo. We are a rare breed. ;)

Describe your book in 140 characters or less.
Tommy forgot his human life when he became a vampire… But it didn’t forget him.

Tell us about the main character(s).
Tommy is a newly turned vampire. In this world, vampires forget their human memories when they are turned, so he doesn’t remember being human. He has to figure out how to get blood and survived in a world that knows vampires exists and is trying to destroy them. He has an identical twin brother who is his link to his human life.

What writers inspire/d you?
Zac Brewer, author of The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod. I followed him on Twitter and FB and I just had this feeling that if he could do it, I could write too.

What does your writing process look like?
I’m a panster so I have no writing process.

Name the five biggest distractions from your writing.
Twitter. Twitter. Naps. Twitter. Twitter. ;)

What character would you most like to be stuck in an elevator with?
Not Tommy. He’d think I was a snack! XD I honestly don’t know. I get these questions all the time, but no one ever comes to mind. I think it’s because I’m an introvert so the idea of being stuck in an elevator with a character or author I like is terrifying.

Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Not as much as I’d like, but when I do, it’s how they liked my writing and the book they read. =D

Some Get to know me Questions

What do you like to do when you're not writing?
I enjoy knitting, making jewelry, creating crafts, and painting. I’ve been artistic for longer than I’ve been a writer. The thing about it is when I’m feeling drained from writing, the artistic and crafty stuff gives a nice creative boost because I can pick something that is more instant gratification. Writing you often don’t see a reward until months or years later.

If you could be any age again for a week, which would you choose and why?
I’d say 7 years old is the magic age. Think about it. No bills. No worries. Parents do everything for you. The only thing you’re lacking is money, but even then, you really don’t care about it that much.

What's your favourite place to read?
Currently, I live in an apartment that isn’t that big, so no favorite place there because I read where I can, but when I lived with my parents, my favorite spot was in the comfy chair next to the fireplace in the winter. I’d curl up and read until I got sleepy and nodded off.

When you walk into a book store, where do you head first?
The romance section to look for vampire books. Then it’s off to the young adult to do the same. Vampires are currently out of style so they aren’t as easy to find in YA.

About the Author:
Patricia Lynne never set out to become a writer, and in fact, she never considered it an option during high school and college. She was all about art. On a whim, she wrote down a story bouncing in her head. That was the start of it and she hasn't regretted a moment. She writes New Adult under the name Patricia Josephine.
Patricia lives with her husband in Michigan, hopes one day to have what will resemble a small petting zoo and has a fondness for dying her hair the colors of the rainbow.
