Welcome to a new YA series that reimagines classic Disney stories in surprising new ways. Each book asks the question: What if one key moment from a familiar Disney film was changed? This dark and daring version of Aladdin twists the original story with the question: What if Jafar was the first one to summon the Genie?
When Jafar steals the Genie’s lamp, he uses his first two wishes to become sultan and the most powerful sorcerer in the world. Agrabah lives in fear, waiting for his third and final wish.To stop the power-mad ruler, Aladdin and the deposed Princess Jasmine must unite the people of Agrabah in rebellion. But soon their fight for freedom threatens to tear the kingdom apart in a costly civil war.
What happens next? A Street Rat becomes a leader. A princess becomes a revolutionary. And readers will never look at the story of Aladdin in the same way again.
My Thoughts:

An incredibly unique and original take on a well loved tale. I loved it.

This was awesome. We all, I'm sure, know Aladdins story by now, well Liz Breswell takes the well loved tale and warps it (in the best way). Jafar is evil, so what would of happened if he got the lamp? Well this is the whole idea behind this book. We get to see just how Evil he is, and I loved it!!

The book starts out pretty much the same as the original, until Jafar gets the lamp, then the true fun and darkness come into play and boy is this a rollercoaster! Once it takes off, it really takes off and it's pretty much non stop.

The characters are a darker version of the movies and it was so much fun reading them like this. We even get some new ones thrown in. But let's talk about poor Genie!!! Oh god, it broke my heart. In the movie he is fun, upbeat but here he is broken. I wanted to jump in and free him from Jafar!!

Anyway, this was such a great read. The author took Aladdin and made it her own. She has created a warped and dangerous Agrabah but one you will also love. The rebellion, the characters, the ending, everything was perfect and I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Bring on the next twisted tale!!!

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed this one so much. It sounds good, but I'm not sure about the darker atmosphere. Poor Genie! Well, it would be impossible to recreate that character the way he was.

    1. I know. Genie was my favourite from the original and it broke my heart to see him like this. :(
