Not even the pesky thorn-in-her-side Shifter Prince could keep the dreams at bay. Though Dustan’s commentary through their mental bond had kept a lingering smile on her lips, despite the battles that rage within her. Yet when Dustan distances himself Laelynn questions the connection between them. Those fears rise when her own talents begin to morph and grow into the unexpected. Torn between love and faith, Laelynn strives to find the purpose behind the evolving gifts. What she discovers is far more than she ever imagined. Now she stared at him, not wanting to wake him but knowing she had to. Gathering her resolve, she shook Dustan’s shoulder lightly. Nothing. She shook a bit harder.
“Dustan. Wake up,” she whispered.
He mumbled a slew of unintelligible words before he turned onto his side, facing her, still fast asleep.
She blew out a loud breath. Good thing she wasn’t in distress, Dustan might’ve slept through it.
Laelynn leaned closer to his ear. Her plan had not been to startle him awake, but he obviously wasn’t a light sleeper. She drew in closer, but before she could speak, Dustan rolled over again, a toned arm taking her with him.
She squeaked and her legs flung up as Dustan hauled her over him onto the bed.
Looking up at her ceiling, she swallowed, keenly aware of his body now curled around hers. Her legs draped over his hip while his twisted in the hem of her gown. Dustan’s steady breath tickled the skin along her neck and collar bone. The weight of his arm across her belly sent her heart racing. The warmth that rushed through her left her hoping he’d wake up, but praying that he didn’t.
Laelynn felt his muscles stiffen as he woke. He rubbed his nose along her neck and breathed in deeply. “Laelynn.”
“Hmm?”
“Why are you in my bed?”
She laughed to play off the nerves shooting through her, then gestured to the room with a flick of her wrist. “Look around, my prince. You are still in my room.”
He took in his surroundings with a slight raise of his head before returning to nuzzle his nose back into the hollow of her neck, pulling her closer. “You are by far the softest, sweetest-smelling pillow I’ve ever had.”
“And you, sir, are the hardest person to get out of bed.”
“Why would I want to when you’re here with me?” Dustan pressed a kiss to her neck, just below her ear.
Laelynn flinched in surprise and sucked in a quick breath.
His full lips curved in a smile. “Could you imagine how livid my mother would be if she walked in right now?”
