Prisoner_Banner

Welcome to my tour stop for Prisoner by Dennis W. Green!I read an loved book 1 of this and am excited to share an excerpt and Guest Post with you. Prisoner is an adult science fiction and the tour runs  with reviews, interviews, guest posts and excerpts. You can see the full schedule HERE.

Prisoner-Cover-HiResAbout Prisoner (Book Two):
Trav Becker is a police detective with multiple lives. Or to be more accurate, he’s a police detective who knows that multiple versions of himself live in countless different streams of existence.
When another Trav Becker appears bleeding and dying at his front door, Trav quickly realizes that something is dreadfully wrong in the multiverse.
Pursued by an FBI profiler who believes (with some justification) that Trav is hiding something, the detective races to save two kidnapped girls while also trying to sort out why he keeps turning up dead.
Desperate to preserve his home timeline, Trav is thrust into a hidden war that threatens to destroy the very fabric of reality itself.
Dennis Green returns to the universe he created in "Traveler" for another mindbending thriller.

Traveler_CoverAbout Traveler (Book One):
Blending mystery, police procedural and scifi, Traveler is a thriller in the tradition of Daniel Suarez and Dean Koontz, with just a dash of Jim Butcher.

Police detective Trav Becker can travel between parallel realities. So can other versions of him. And one is systematically killing every Trav he can find. Trav must fight to keep the very fabric of time itself from unwinding as he hunts the most dangerous quarry of all... himself.

Guest Post:

Ten Things You Need to Know About The Traveler Chronicles

  1. The music is for me. The songs mentioned in the Traveler books are all favorites of mine. The jazz tunes are standards, but some of the pop and rock selections are pretty obscure. They are tunes that I wish were remembered more, and mentioning them in my books is my little attempt to keep them from being forgotten. If you’re interested in hearing any of them, a playlist of Trav’s Favorites is available on my YouTube channel.
  2. Same for Buckaroo Banzai. Without being too spoilery, in Prisoner, there is a conceit linked to my favorite cheesy Eighties movie of all time. There were some other ways I could have handled this plot point, but using Buckaroo Banzai made me laugh. I honestly thought that a beta reader or my editor would call me on it, and say the reference was too convoluted or obscure, and suggest I change it. But nobody did, and now the section I’ve started to call the “Sorting Scene” is one of my favorites to feature at readings.
  3. I actually believe in the Traveler theory of parallel universes. After all, when you can’t find your car keys or discover you’ve been spelling a friend’s name wrong for months, which explanation makes you feel better, that you’ve somehow slipped into a parallel universe where things are just a little different, or that you’re old and forgetful?
  4. Two scenes in Traveler are directly inspired by the movie “Frequency.” One at the beginning of the book, one at the end. I’ll let you guess which ones.
  5. I would pretty much cast the entire Traveler movie out of “Person of Interest.” And with #4 in mind, it’s not surprising that I think Jim Caviezel and Amy Acker would make a pretty great Trav and Morgan.
  6. No one has ever challenged my spelling of Traveler. I have always expected some pushback from purists who thought it should be “Traveller.” Both are correct, incidentally.
  7. There actually was a public radio show featuring a psychic. “Second Sight” aired on WPPB-FM in Long Island until late in 2014.
  8. The magic is real. Or at least the tricks are. My magic advisor is my son Jack, who has been a professional magician since the age of twelve.
  9. Larry Kudej paid to get in the book. The character of the young cop who helps Trav in his investigation of the kidnapping is my friend and fellow Rotarian Larry Kudej (pronounced, believe it or not, KOO-jee), won the opportunity to appear by being the high bidder in a charity auction to benefit KCCK-FM, the jazz radio station where I work.
  10. Trav has been cosplayed! At ICON40, a sci-fi con here in Iowa, I was floored when three fans of the book showed up dressed as the Rangers from Prisoner. Best. Thing. Ever.

Excerpt:

“THEY’RE COMING.”
BRIGHT, arterial blood spurted from the shoulder of the man standing at my door. It contrasted with a darker stain that soaked his abdomen. The arm that wasn’t gushing blood was wrapped around the stomach wound, trying to hold his guts in.
He swayed a couple of times and crumpled to the ground.
I managed to catch him before he hit, lowering him to the floor as gently as I could. I cradled his head as his mouth worked, but all that came out was a rusty wheeze.
“Don’t try to talk,” I said. “I’ll get help.”
He focused on me with some difficulty, reaching for the collar of my shirt with a bloody hand. He pulled me close to his face.
“They’re coming,” he whispered again.
And died.
I gently laid his head back and placed the hand that had grabbed my shirt on his chest. I laid two fingers on his neck to verify there was no pulse, but I knew there was no life remaining in his blank, staring eyes.
I rocked back on my haunches and regarded the dead man on my living room floor.
I knew him. His name was Trav Becker. Thirty-two, eleven year veteran of our town’s police department, last four of those a detective. Single, but with a girlfriend totally out of his league. He was thinking of asking her to tie the knot.
I knew he’d broken his elbow jumping off a play set at his eighth birthday party.
I knew that he was still coming to terms with the death of his dad, even though it had been more than two years.
And that he was now strictly a beer drinker because of some very unpleasant memories involving vodka.
I knew a lot more about him than that.
In fact, I knew everything about him.
Because Trav Becker is also my name.
And this was not the first time I had found myself staring at my own dead body. In fact, it wasn’t even the first time in this room.
It is not something you get used to.

  1. I believe in parallel universes. I'm not sure if I think of them quite the same but that could be as well. I'm imagining more of places where faeries live or where Avalon went. So I guess I imagine things more 'fantasy' like. But still, I think they exist in some way or another.
This is fascinating stuff! And that would be really cool to see people dressed as the Rangers!
Thanks for hosting a tour stop Natalie!
