  • Small-town Deputy Sheriff A.J. “Jesse” Prieo led a comfortable life with his wife and daughter by his side. All that changed in an instant when genetically engineered creatures—terrifyingly similar to velociraptors—were set loose on an unsuspecting world.

  • In the post-apocalyptic aftermath, pockets of civilization endure, but they are few and far between.

  • Helped by a sword-wielding former radical, a woman of shifting loyalties, and a mysterious lost child, Jesse must do whatever it takes to lay his ghosts to rest and survive long enough to uncover the twisted secrets behind the Raptor Apocalypse.

My Thoughts:

How can you not love this?? End of the world as we know it but with Raptors instead of a virus or Zombies!! It's deliciously dark, yet oodles of fun. Anything with dinosaurs in it and I'm sold ;) Lol.

Anyway, the plot of this isn't hard to understand... genetically modified things escape, breed like crazy, eats humans, end of the world as we know it! It sounds like a typical, old style, campy, B-Movie plot, and while it kind of is, it's also so much more. This story has heart and will keep you gripped till the very end. It's a unique take on the end of the world but is also a tale of hope, of survival against the odds and of realising your mistakes.

Character wise, this follows some very different characters, all of whom were well written and developed, and I have to say that I loved them all, especially the raptors ;) Deputy Sheriff Jesse is just a normal guy trying to survive a horrible world. Cory was intriguing. He wields his Katana expertly and isn't afraid to battle the beasts, but what's his story? Then we have the mysterious little girl. Who is she??

In all, this was a pleasant surprise and one I ended up devouring. It's bloody, it's dark, but it's such a great read that you will have a hard time putting it down. I really need book 2 to see what happens! Thoroughly enjoyable and I highly recommend it!!

Alex Lankford seems to be a new narrator and it showed a bit. He did a great job for his first time, but I felt like he needs a little work with his tones and cadences. He needs to know when to amp up the tension and when to slow it down, but I'm sure that will come with experience.

I was voluntarily provided this free copy by the author, narrator, or publisher. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.

  1. Sounds like my kind of story. I just finished two that had different kinds of dinosaurs in them and had a blast. I need to try this one.
