But there is a monster that lurks silently in the water, watching and waiting; hungry for its next meal. Duane has seen THE BEAST OF BLACK POND, and the beast has his scent. The beast hunts him from the pond, to the lake by the dam, even to his own swimming pool. Duane will need all his wits, and the help of his friends if he wants to avoid being pulled under to a watery grave.

My Thoughts:

Duane is given an assignment and chooses to write about a local legend of a Beast in the Black Pond. People have disappeared there and Duane is eager to write about it. The teacher warns him not to go there as it's blocked off because it's dangerous, but Duane wants to get a feel for the place and goes there to see what he can find. When he sees what is there, he is terrified. He is seconds from death when his friend Ian calls him. The monster retreats back into the pond but it has his sent and Duane knows he has to find a way to stop it before it's too late. 

This was quite spooky, which was awesome. I liked Duane and Ian and became invested in their story.  Duane was a great main character and acted quite bravely for his age. The setting of the pond was well described and the monster was scary. It was a fun and easy read and made me eager to see what's next for these boys. 

As in the other Spine Chiller book I read, I really didn't like the fact that no-one told on the bullies!! The boys get bullied quite badly and not one person told a parent or person of authority!! They said that the bulling would only get worse for them. I know that may be the case, but in this day and age it's an awful message to send to young kids. I always urge my sons to tell if they are getting bullied, or if they see someone getting bullied. It's zero tolerance for bullying in their schools. 

In all, a good read. It was spooky enough to enjoy and held my attention. I'm looking forward to seeing who will be next and what nasty comes along.
