The second book in the Wayward Pines Series—now a Major Television Event from executive producer M. Night Shyamalan, starring Matt Dillon Thursdays on FOX or catch up on Amazon Instant Video.Welcome to Wayward Pines, population 461. Nestled amid picture-perfect mountains, the idyllic town is a modern-day Eden…except for the electrified fence and razor wire, snipers scoping everything 24/7, and the relentless surveillance tracking each word and gesture.None of the residents know how they got here. They are told where to work, how to live, and who to marry. Some believe they are dead. Others think they’re trapped in an unfathomable experiment. Everyone secretly dreams of leaving, but those who dare face a terrifying surprise.Ethan Burke has seen the world beyond. He’s sheriff, and one of the few who knows the truth—Wayward Pines isn’t just a town. And what lies on the other side of the fence is a nightmare beyond anyone’s imagining.
My Thoughts:

This is book 2 of the series and we get a little more in depth look at Pines and the people and why they are there. Ethan has been outside the fence and seen what is beyond. He now understands why Pines is there and has agreed to be Sheriff to keep everyone safe. He still doesn't like the fact that the people don't know whats happened nor the fact that they are monitored and listened in on all the time. Yet can he change the way things are?

Book one dealt with Ethan and his trying to adjust to life now but this delves more into the town as a whole and why it's here. We get a better look at some of the other characters and a little back story on them. We also see a back story for Pilcher, the "creator" of Pines and his right hand woman, Pam. I'm glad we get too see more about Pilcher and Pam and how Pines came about!

Ethan has grown since book 1 and he has settles in nicely, so it seems anyway. He isn't content with the way things are going and tries to find a solution. He is as inquisitive as ever and not willing to let his boss walk all over him.

There isn't much more I can say without spoiling something because there is so much going on in the book that it would be hard not to! Once again we have a mind bendingly twisted read. The author has so far never failed to make me gasp with his revelations or what he has done with the story. This will answer some questions but set up more for what's sure to be an epic conclusion! Fantastic!!!!

  1. Sounds like the town itself is a good thing, but it's just run badly. I was wondering how the whole series could be set in the one town. It kind of spoils things that they classify this as Fantasy. There goes my aliens theory. Nice review.
