Title: Divine Vices
Author: Melissa Parkin
Published: September 29th 2015

Book Blurb:
The last thing sixteen-year-old Cassie Foster needs is trouble, but that doesn’t stop him from finding her.
Nine months after the tragic accident that killed her mother and sister, this high school junior just wants a fresh start. Settling down in the quiet town of New Haven, Maine, she’s found peace at last…until the new resident bad boy, Jackson Matthews, comes into the picture. Arrogant, sarcastic, and devastatingly sexy, he’s the very last thing Cassie wants to entertain. Romance was never part of the plan. But when terrifying circumstances drive these two together, she finds herself in over her head and drawn in by his allure. As local girls begin disappearing, Cassie can’t help but wonder if it’s just a coincidence that everything started when this blue-eyed Casanova strolled into town. Will falling into Jackson’s arms mean she’ll be falling victim to a real lady-killer…or worse?
The answer will open the door to a world she never thought possible.

Author Bio: Melissa Parkin is a Chicagoland native who feels weird referring to herself in the third person. When she's not binge reading, taking photographs, breaking the first rule of Fight Club, or playing music too loud, she's writing young adult paranormal romances.

Get Real Teaser POV: Francesca
The moon was full. I’d lost my cardigan somewhere in the house but this late in June, the night before the summer solstice, it was warm. The thump of bass and tinkling laughter from the party kept me company, but I was alone until a familiar weight crushed my lap.
The swing jolted sideways.
“Give us a sip,” Devi said, sprawling across me. “I’m parched.”
I halfheartedly shoved her. “There’s this amazing oldschool technology called a tap. It pours wa-
ter to quench your thirst.”
“It’s too crowded in there. And some obnoxious ass is juggling kegs. This does not bode well for
the rest of the evening.”
Great. I’d probably end up on healing duty.
Devi slid off me and swung her legs onto my lap, nestling against the green cushions resting along
our backs. She held out her hand imperiously.
I handed over my soda. “Any sign of the target? Or his friends?” I asked.
“No sightings yet.” Eli slumped down on my other side. He flicked my knee to get me to move my
leg from under his, since he’d sat on it. Then he snatched the bottle from Devi before I could grab it, and took a long swig.
Eli sputtered at the taste of it. “Coke,” he said with the same disgust reserved for “herpes.”
I wiped off my arm with a grimace. “Where’s Byron?” I asked.
Eli set the bottle down between us. “Last I saw, she was pretending to hostess but really watching
the front door like a hawk waiting for her boy toy to show.”
Byron gracefully sat down into the teak chair to my left, placing her own drink on the low table in
front of us with a gentle clink of ice. She’d changed from her more casual sundress into dark skinny jeans and a sparkly black top, her hair curled in gentle waves. What a goodlooking bunch we were. “Hardly a hawk,” she said.
“A lady hawk.” Eli leaned forward to inspect the dark liquid.
“Rum and coke,” Byron said, sliding her glass away from him. “And off limits to boys who insult.” I leaned my head on Eli’s shoulder. “This is nice. Who knows how many more moments we’ll have
like this for a while?”
Eli slung his arm around me. Devi reached up to take his hand, while Byron swung a foot onto
his lap, as we all watched a couple dance in lazy turns on the lawn to the dubstep pounding from the living room.
I was really lucky to have them, these friends who loved me for who I was, pointless boiler aspira- tions and all. I sighed, all warm and snug.
Then some guy stepped into the back doorway, framed by the soft light over the door and I forgot these people existed. Hip braced against the wood, he lounged all cocky arrogance. He wore dark straightleg jeans, hanging low on his lean hips, and exposing a glimpse of hard abs under a Tshirt reading More Issues Than Vogue.
I laughed softly, even as my stomach clenched in swoony delight.
I couldn’t tell his eye color but he had black hair, cut short on the sides and longer on top.
He flexed a hand, rubbing it roughly over the top of his head. It left his softlooking strands all
mussed up. Even his fierce scowl didn’t detract from his looks. Though he wasn’t my usual pretty boy type.
The more I watched him from my cover of the shadowed swing, the more his smoldering dark looks made “pretty” kind of boring. “Figo,” I sighed. “Who is that? But don’t
Every single pair of my friends’ eyes swung toward him.
“... Stare,” I said.
“Hey.” Byron bounced on the seat at the sight of him. “That means Jones must be here.”
She glanced around.
Eli clamped a hand down on her as she tried to get up. “Play it cool.”
She grumbled but stayed put.
Devi swung her head between the unknown beautiful boy and me. “Do tell. I’m intrigued by any
male who gets Frankie so hot and bothered.”
“Am...” I started to protest, but got distracted by the view as he turned around.
My friends snickered.
“Not,” I finished.
“Yeah you ‘am,’” Eli said. “Name him already Byron, so that Frankie may harness his body for
unspeakable acts.”
I waved a flustered hand at him. “Shut up.”
Devi halfraised her hand. “Wait. I want her to speak them. The acts.” She took my hand and
placed it on Eli’s leg. “Or just point out on Eli where you’d like to touch this guy.”
I snatched my hand back with a longsuffering look. “Who is he?”
Byron lowered her voice. Not like he could hear us. “You must have heard of him. Rafael Muñoz?” Devi’s eyes widened. “That’s Javier’s infamous kid, Rafa?”
I deflated. Only because of his reputation and not at all because he now chatted with a supermod-
elgorgeous blonde. “Could he invade her personal space any more?”
I guzzled down the dregs of my Coke.
“Don’t think of Rafa as marriage material, more like ‘for a good time call,’” Byron said.

Killshot by Aria Michaels Blog Tour!

When 17 year old Liv Larson and her brother are sent to separate foster homes, she dedicates her every breath to getting him back. After months of solitude and anti-social behavior, her best friend Riley ropes her into a Rooftop Solar Flare Party. Despite the fascinating lights in the sky, Liv finds herself drawn, instead, to Zander- the boy with the crooked smile.
For a few hours, Liv’s troubles finally feel a bit less overwhelming—that is until what should have been a small flare erupts into a massive solar storm forcing them all to seek shelter in the school’s basement. Cut off from the rest of the world and with no signs of rescue, fear and paranoia set in and battle lines are drawn, dividing their ranks. What is left the group must embark on a perilous journey to save one of their own and find their families…but, something sinister awaits them in the shadows and it’s undeniably connected to Liv.
Can Liv keep her promise to reunite with her brother? What are she and her friends willing to do to survive? Will their bravery and determination be enough to save them all from a rogue government, a terrifying virus, and the things that go bump in the night…Or was Icarus, indeed, The Killshot?

Exclusive Interview with
Liv Larson and Zander James

Me: I can’t thank the two of you enough for taking the time to sit down with me today. I must admit, in light of everything the two of you are going through right now, I was quite surprised when Aria told me that you had agreed to this interview. We are all very excited!

Liv: (shifting nervously in her seat) Umm, can we just get this over with? We don’t have time for this, Zander. What was I thinking? This was a bad idea.

Zander:  Hey, take it easy. The sun won’t be down for a few more minutes anyway. You said yourself, it’s too dangerous to travel right now. We can’t go anywhere till dark. It’s okay for us to just be still for a moment, Liv. (Zander grabs her hand and she relaxes a bit)

Liv: (sigh) Fine. Five minutes.

Me: Right. Okay, I suppose I will just get to it, then. (Zander flashes that crooked smile and waves me on). Zander, this first question is for you. One fan would like to know, what is your most treasured possession?

Zander: You know, it’s funny. If you had asked me that same question a few days ago, I would have said my dad’s bike, and not even hesitated. But, now? It all seems so trivial.

Me: How do you mean?

Zander: I mean it’s all just stuff. When all you have left in this world is the clothes on your back and your memories, possessions don’t really mean a whole lot anymore.

I guess if I had to pick something, though, the only thing I have that means anything to me is little more than a useless scrap of metal. Still, that eagle is all I have left of my dad. Plus, Liv damn-near got herself killed trying to get it for me. I can never repay her for that…and for everything else. (Squeezes Liv’s hand tighter and she smiles reluctantly)

Liv: It really wasn’t that big of a deal. (She looks over her shoulder at the door, and sighs.)

Zander: The hell it wasn’t, Liv. It was the single bravest—and stupidest thing anyone has ever done for me. Look, if it hadn’t been for Liv’s hair-brained scheme to get me that medicine, I wouldn’t even be here.

Liv: Well, the alternative was to lose you. I’m sorry, but that was just not an option.

Me: Of course it wasn’t. You had already lost so much…even before Icarus hit. Being separated from your little brother just weeks after your parents’ death couldn’t have been easy for you. I can’t even begin to imagine that must have been like for you, Liv.

Liv: No, you can’t imagine—and no one should ever have to. My family was everything to me. In an instant, it was all just…gone. There was nothing I could do to change any of it.

When they took my little brother away, if felt as though they took the last piece of me with him. If it hadn’t been for Riley… I guess you could say that she saved me. Or maybe we saved each other, I don’t know. (shrugs and wipes her eye) Either way, I don’t know how I would have gotten this far without her. She’s my best, she’s more than that. If there is one thing that this whole Icarus mess has taught me, is that there is so much more to family than blood. Riley Baxter is my sister.

Zander: Seriously, you should see them together. (laughs) Riley is the persistent Yin to Liv’s stubborn Yang. When no one else can get through to Liv, Riley always knows what to say. They have this connection.
Me: Seems like the two of you have a connection of your own. Do you feel as though Icarus is responsible for that or is there more to it?

Liv: Wow, I...You mean is this (gestures between herself and Zander) real, or is he only drawn to me out of a warped sense of obligation?

Me: It is possible that—.

Zander:  Hold up. I am just going to stop you, right there. (His eyes narrow, he rises to his feet and Liv stands with him). What Liv and I have together is just as real the smoke that chokes our lungs or the fires that burn at our feet. Nothing you or anyone else says will change that.

She may be the most stubborn and strong-willed girl I have ever met in my life, but Liv is special, and I don’t just mean her abilities, you know? She has this sort of reluctant strength that makes the rest of us feel safe. And by the way, my faith in her and our connection, as you put it, has absolutely nothing to do with Icarus. Liv has always been a survivor—even before all this.  We believe in her for a reason. (He turns to Liv, his copper eyes glinting in the dim lantern light) I wish she could see what the rest of us see.

Me:  Wow. I’m amazed you can stay so positive after everything you have been through.  I would be scared as hell if I were in your position, but here you are smiling. How do you keep your head up when the world is quite literally crashing down around you…when everything is so dark?

Zander: (laughs and shakes his head)  The dark is nothing to be afraid of, lady. It’s the daylight you need to be worried about. (There are two soft taps on the door) It’s time to go.

Me: Wait! Before you leave, I have one last question.

Liv:  What?  (clearly exasperated with me)

Me: Do you have any regrets?

Liv:  Really? There is no room for regret in this world anymore. Why waste time worrying about what could have been when what is coming is so much bigger than any of it.
(They walk hand-in-hand out the door without looking back)

  • My Thoughts:

From the second I started this I was hooked! From it's creepy swamp setting to it's psychotic characters, this is a must read. I devoured this and listened to it in a day, I just couldn't take out my ear phones!!

I'm not going to say anything about the plot because it's easily spoiled but I will say that it was so fast paced and intense. From the very first page you are swept up into a thrilling and sinister book and one you won't want to end.

The characters were fantastic. Its really hard to talk about them because this is the type of book where you are better off knowing nothing about it! Suffice it to say that this author can create some twisted people!! Lol.

I'm having a tough time trying to write an in depth review because, as I said, you are better off knowing nothing because you will enjoy it more. Everything about this was amazing and there was literally nothing I didn't like. It's a tense and twisted read but one you will love. I am definitely checking out more by this author because if this is anything to go by then I'm sold!

Jeff Hays was fan-freakin-tastic!! His voices and tones were perfect. He was chilling as the Uncle and gave me shivers!! He portrayed that family amazingly and really brought to life the terror the other people had. Go check out his work, you won't be disappointed!!

*I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*
