Title : Heart Song
Author : Desiree Williams
In Aldonnia, the
evil of Varkadon overflows its borders. War ravages the lands…
For as long as eighteen
year-old Alanna can remember she’s lived in hiding, sealed off from the outside
world. Despite a future built around a steadfast rule of seclusion, Alanna
dreams of the impossible. Of a life outside of her parents’ cabin. A life with
more for company than just birds and woodland creatures. A life she knows deep
down is impossible for someone with gifts like hers.
That all changes
the day Alanna finds a man floating face down in a stream. Despite her parents’
warnings, Alanna pulls the injured man out of the water and heals him with her
elemental talents. Just another good deed. Until the man wakes and Alanna
realizes so much more has happened than simply a life saved. The healing she
performed on the stranger bound her soul to Jerric, the prince of Aldonnia.
Alanna’s heart
wants to keep the prince, but duty and destiny intervene. Alanna’s world is
rocked as her parents are lost. Left in the care of family she didn’t know, Alanna
learns more than she wanted to about the evil threatening the lands. There is much
more behind her parents’ drive to protect. Alanna learns her gifts were
bestowed in order to fulfill a greater purpose. A greater calling. One her
enemies seek to destroy at all cost.
Alanna’s choice is clear. To either ignore
her destiny and remain hidden, or boldly fight to keep what sings to her heart.

Guest Post :
Before we start going into the meanings
behind the story, I want to say THANK YOU! Being able to guest post on your
blog is truly an honor. =) Not to mention, I get to talk all about my
characters. Great, right?!
When I set out to create Heart Song, I wanted to deliver a story
that had meaning behind it. A story where the reader would not only feel the love,
but the hope and encouragement behind the words. A tale where pure, genuine,
heart-felt love conquers all. A love that ignites the
kind of hope that overcomes the evil pounding at the door. Having that in mind
I chose names for the main characters based on the type of feel I wanted them to portray in the story. Granted, not all
character names were so well thought-out, but the main players were indeed.
Let’s start with Alanna. Her name means ‘beautiful;
peaceful’. Not only is Alanna beautiful on the outside, but, more importantly,
she is beautiful on the inside. As she journeys through the path of
self-discovery, Alanna brings with her a sense of peace to the people. She
learns more about her purpose and her calling, and with that she brings a light
and hope to a war ravaged land.
Next up is Jerric, the prince of Aldonnia.
Jerric means ‘strong; gifted ruler’. This definition matches Jerric’s gifts/
talents, but also his character. He’s a strong, noble, honorable prince who is
gifted to protect his heart song and his people. I can’t tell you how Jerric’s
gifts change throughout the story, you’ll have to read and see. =)
Then comes the lovely Laelynn, Jerric’s
sister. Her name means ‘flower of hope’. We will see more of Laelynn in book
two of the Heart Song Trilogy, but she is destined to bring hope to a divided
nation. Her gifts and talents are over nature – plants and animals – and her
talents bloom and blossom as she opens her heart to love.
Last, but certainly not least, is Dustan,
Alanna’s cousin. Even though Dustan is a fun-loving prankster, he is a fighter,
as his name implies. He fights for righteousness, he fights to protect his clan,
and he will fight to protect the woman who’s claimed his heart.
There are more dynamic characters that will
partake in the Heart Song Trilogy,
but these are the four you’ll want to keep your eye on.
Many of us, as we trudge through the day to
day activities, need little reminders that we can achieve the impossible, and I
hope that these characters can do that. Readers dive into books for an array of
reasons, but one I see stand out the most is to escape. I tend to do that
myself. When I’m stress and about to wig-out, I grab a book.
Each of us have a purpose. We each are
strong, gifted, beautiful individuals who bring hope with us as we climb the
mountain to achieve our dreams. There might be some challenges and battles
along the way, but anything worthwhile is worth fighting for.
Thanks again for having me! I loved being
able to give everyone a sneak peek behind the meaning of the book and
characters. **Thanks for taking the time to do a Guest Post for us. I loved getting to know your characters a bit :)
