Gamin, Maine, is a remote seaside town where everyone seems to know Ellis Harkington better than she knows herself—but she doesn't remember any of them.
Unknown events have robbed Ellis of her memory. Concerned individuals, who purport to be her friends and loved ones, insist that she simply needs to recuperate, that her memories may return in time, but refuse to divulge what has brought her to this state. For her own sake, so they say.
Ellis finds herself adrift in a town of ominous mysteries, cryptic hints, and disturbingly familiar strangers. The Nightbirds, a clique of fashionable young men and women, claim her as one of their own, but who among them can she truly trust? And what of the phantom suitor who visits her in her dreams? Is he a memory, a figment of her imagination, or a living nightmare beyond rational explanation?
Only her lost past hold the answers she seeks—if she can uncover its secrets before she fall prey to an unearthly killer.
My Thoughts :
When Ellis returns to Gamin she has no memories. She cant remember anything at all, and its with the hope of surrounding her with familiar things, that she will get her memories back. With strange things happening and flashes of things coming to her Ellis has to try solve the puzzle. What happened her and why? Who are these Nightbirds? Why do the people of Gamin and her so called friends keep hinting at things but yet saying its against the rule to tell her anything! Just what is going on??
Ok, this book was nothing like I thought it was going to be! It was weird yet wonderful.
Ellis wasn't the kind of heroine I was expecting. She was a little passive for my liking but I still felt for her. She remembers nothing and was frustrated by it, yet she never really pleaded her case with her friends, she never demanded answers with all their hints. I would of liked to have seen her be stronger. Don't get me wrong, she was still likable if a little meek.
I loved the mystery surrounding everything in the town. From the people to the places, nothing is as it seems. The whole way through the book I had no clue where it was going. I also loved the addition and intrigue surrounding the mystery man Ellis dreamed of, or were they dreams??
Overall, Unwept is a beautifully written mystery that kept me guessing. Its a book that you want to savour because otherwise you might miss something. The world the authors created was fascinating and spooky, it was unique and odd but a still a place where once you dive in you cant let go. From the superb writing to the crazy characters, Unwept was a captivating read. I look forward to more in this world!!
