Seeking Solace  Book 1

The first book in the Solace trilogy follows Arvana, the only Solacian capable of seeing the Blue Eye's revelations, as she reluctantly leaves her cloistered refuge to seek a champion to wield a relic against the resurrected draeden. The obvious champion is the charismatic Prince Chane Lerouge, who possesses the one remaining sword the ancestors used to end the Reckoning. But the unknown warrior, Captain Degarius, unrelentingly pursues a rumored lake monster with a blade whispered to be blessed. Will Arvana's mission earn her the elusive solace she seeks or spiral her heart—and the world—into a second Reckoning if she chooses the wrong man? Downplaying magic in favor of romance and fantasy, Arvana's adventure boasts strong characters in an immersive, realistic new realm.

In an act of fidelity, Paulus’s blessed sword falls into undeserving hands.
By tests of strength, endurance and mercy, a champion proves worthy of the Blue Eye.
Though Arvana serves her penance by choosing a champion, the pure joy of a shacra evades her until a forbidden moment of tenderness. But will a single kiss endanger the fate of the world and destroy her heart’s longing for solace?

Solace Arisen  Book 3

This final installment of the Solace Trilogy finds Arvana contending with the choices she's made and the fate of the world on her shoulders. In the depths of winter, the Scyon releases the powers of Hell to bring forth a second Reckoning that will overturn world order. But from the deepest desperation, the fugitive outcasts reluctantly embark on an impossible quest. Armed only with a single blessed sword, a dangerous relic, and the remnants of a shattered love, will solace arise?

Between a woman and the powers of hell
Arvana thought she’d found refuge from the pain of earthly love when she joined the cloistered community of Solace--then...

Stand a relic
In the dark of the superior’s chamber the ancient Blue Eye relic begins to glow, and the creatures of the Reckoning are resurrected. As the one Solacian who can use the Blue Eye, Arvana is commanded into society on a secret task to find a champion to wield the powerful relic.

Two men
Arvana’s choice seems simple: a charismatic prince or a battered captain of proven courage. But when one man demands her love and the other inspires it, her mission unravels.

And a last chance at solace
Will a single forbidden moment endanger the fate of the world and destroy Arvana’s hope of solace with the man who opened her heart?

Thank you for the chance to appear on Book Lover’s Life, Natalie, and to talk to your fans about my new romantic fantasy trilogy, Solace. I like to think of it as Game of Thrones for women. It has all the elements of gritty and dark low fantasy, but also a wrenching—and tender—love triangle. In the excerpt below, Arvana, a nun-like character, has just won a horse race against the charismatic prince, Chane Lerouge. He has mistaken her secret mission to judge him worthy to wield the Blue Eye as suppressed sexual attraction:
“Arvana swung her leg over the horse and began to dismount, but the prince grasped her by the waist and lifted her to the ground. The pressure of his hands so firmly on her body took her breath away and made her heart rise into her throat. No one had ever touched her like that except her father when she was a small thing learning to ride. But Chane’s hands weren’t her father’s hands. Why Chane’s hands were different her mind wouldn’t say, but her face burned. She wanted to step back, hide her face, but she couldn’t move. He was unconscionably close. Men helped women dismount. He had helped Jesquin. It wasn’t anything unusual, but Jesquin didn’t blush.  Arvana darted her gaze to her too-small shoes and forced herself to notice her toes throbbed.
Yet, one of his hands rested at her waist. It was so large and warm.
“Since you have named no prize, I’m forced to give you one of my own devise.” He took her down-turned chin into his hand and lifted it.
Why was he teasing her? Touching her face and making her pulse race? She raised her gaze to his to implore him to stop, but his eyes held no glint of the humor in his voice. His touch made her forget to breathe, and the earnest longing in his eyes arrested her thoughts.
As his face came nearer, he closed his eyes and by an uncontrollable impulse, she closed hers, too.
He gently touched his lips to hers.
“There,” he whispered, his lips brushing hers as he spoke, “you need that more than gold. Has anyone ever kissed you?”
Kiss. At the word, Arvana returned to her senses and jerked away. “Prince!”
“Don’t act surprised. I only lost because I wanted to watch you ride. It was quite a view.”
“That is…not true,” she stammered, bewildered between the exhilaration of the ride and the surprise of the kiss. “I won fair.”
“Yes, you won. You won me from the start. It was never fair.” He grasped her to him.
His mouth covered hers, ordering her not to resist; her lips relaxed, melted to fit his. At the press of his insistent lips, her mind went white to everything except sensation. It was as if the moment of the kiss was an eternity in which she could feel every single hair in his close shaven beard as they brushed her chin and cheeks. His teeth tugged her bottom lip with a passionate hunger. Beneath his hands, her back tingled. All these things happened at once, but she experienced each perfectly, completely.
He exhaled a long, aching sigh into her mouth, then his lips and hands were gone.
Aloneness and vulnerability flooded in to fill the void of his presence. She’d been kissed once, but not like that. Never like that.”

So, I’d love to know other readers’ favorite romances in fantasy as I’m always eager for a little love mixed in with tales of dangerous daggers and dragons. All suggestions/comments are eligible to win the complete Solace trilogy in your choice of ebook form.
