Zimmah the djinn isn't evil. He simply thinks the world would be more fun if everything was made of desserts. So when ten-year-old Karim Jacobs makes a wish to fix his parent's marriage it's not Zimmah's fault that he twists the wish. He couldn't help himself. Candypunk airships and cupcake castles are cool! Of course Karim isn't happy about his wish going astray, specially when running into fantastical creatures like gummy-grizzly-bears and rock candy beasts; and although he desperately wants to go home, he finds himself in the middle of a war between the Cupcake Kingdom and Brownie Kingdom. With his parents lives in danger, its up to him to stop Zimmah and restore the world to normal.

My Thoughts:

Cupcakes vs Brownies is a delightfully fun and entertaining read. It's the story of Karim and his wish that everything would be better. How was he to know that the djinn would twist his wish?? So when he lands into a candy world where his mother runs one kingdom and his father the other, and both are at war with each other, he knows that it's up to him to try to fix it. How can he outsmart a djinn though?

As I said already, this was such a fun and delicious read. The world the author created was awesome, I mean who doesn't love Gummy Bears, once they don't fight back of course!! ;) Karim finds himself in a world where everything is made of candy, but it's a dangerous world too. What happens in the world happens in real life, so with his parents life in jeopardy, he knows its only a matter of time before something deadly happens.

Karim was a great character. My heart broke for him at the start, with his parents constantly fighting. Poor Karim just wanted them to stop, he just wanted life to be better. Then he gets thrown into a different world!! He stayed strong though and did what was needed to be done.

In all this was a great read and one I think every child will love! It has plenty of action, adventure and sugary sweetness that will satisfy everyone. It's a fast paced and energetic read and I look forward to book 2.

Zimmah the wicked djinn thought he was so smart. He thought nothing could stop him, let alone a mere child. That was until he met Whitney, a devilish girl who used his own powers against him. A wish gone wrong sends Zimmah, Whitney, and Karim to The Otherworld, a magical land where Mermaids and Unicorns are caught in an epic war. All Whitney wants is to save her sick mother, all Karim wants is to get home, and all Zimmah wants is revenge on the children who have tricked him.
