856 CE, Ireland is a land of myth, magic, and blood. Viking raiders have fought the Irish for over half a century. Rival Irish clans promise only betrayal and carnage.
Kaireen, daughter of Laird Liannon, is suddenly forced into an arranged marriage with her sworn enemy, a Viking. She refuses to submit. With no mention of love, only land and the protection of her clan, she endeavors to get her betrothed banished from her country. Will love find its way around her stubborn heart?
Bram, the Viking, finds himself without future or inheritance as a younger son in his family. A marriage to the Laird’s daughter would grant him land if he swears fidelity and if his men will fight along with the Liannons against any foe—Irish or Viking. However, the Laird’s feisty daughter only holds animosity for him and his kind. Is marriage worth the battle scars of such a relentless opponent?
With the blame for a rival laird’s death treacherously set against the Liannons, Kaireen and Bram must find a way to lay aside their differences as an unforeseen darkness sends death snapping at their heels.
My Thoughts :
I don't read a lot of Historical Romance but when the author contacted me about the book and I read the blurb I was sold! I'm Irish and love reading anything set here so even before I started the book the fact it's set in Ireland is a plus ;) Also it has big strapping Vikings in it!! Add the 2 together and you have a winner.
I loved Kaireen. She is so feisty and outspoken in a world where women are looked down upon and treated like they don't matter. When she is told that her marriage has been arranged, right from the start she is adamant that it isn't going to happen. She doesn't want to marry a foreigner no matter what, she wants what her sister Shay has; True Love. She is determined to make the stranger hate her and leave and tries all she can to make it happen.
Then we have Bram. *Sigh* Bram!!! What a magnificent specimen ;) He is strong, handsome, cocky, kind, and such a sweetheart. He stole my heart. Whats better than a Viking?? A big strong handsome kind Viking named Bram. Lol. I adored his character and loved seeing his relationship play out.
Despite Kaireen doing everything she can to stay far away from Bram, circumstances keep bringing them together and slowly Kaireen see's that Bram isn't just a dumb Viking. She finds herself drawn to him and for me their relationship was the highlight of the book.
The secondary characters were all so well thought out. I loved Kaireens mysterious handmaiden and loved finding out who she was. My heart broke for Shay and her daughter. I even loved reading about the bad guys because they were so evil and well defined. I also loved Brams clan, even though we only got a glimpse of them. It just shows how captivating the authors writing is if she can manage to make us love all her characters!!
Andrea Cooper has managed to bring old Ireland to life in this fast paced read. Once I started reading I couldn't stop as it's an extremely well written story that will grab you. I fell in love with the world and the characters in this story and hope to see more from them. At times heartbreaking and at others touching, Viking Fire is a must read.
